Marketing Tips
To Use Every Day
1. Not placing their web address on every form
of literature that goes out of their office. Examples: letterheads, business
cards, envelopes, invoices, etc. You can never tell where
your next customer will come from so you must cover all your bases.
2. Not placing their web address in front of
potential customers on the road. Examples: Lettering on company vehicles,
license plate frames, vanity plates, towing receiver covers,
etc.. I recently visited a boat trailer manufacturer in
Ohio, that put his company name, logo and telephone number on every trailer he
made. Why not the web address? What better advertising is there?
3. Not using their print advertising to improve
their web traffic. Examples: News paper ads, magazine ads, professional
periodicals that you may advertise in.
4. Not putting their web address in electronic
advertisements such as TV and radio ads.
5. Making sure that your internet web address is
part of your on hold messaging or answering service if you
have one.
6. Thinking all they need do is have a web site
built and they (customers) will come. Marketing a web site
is more important now more than ever. With the millions of pages per year
being uploaded to the Internet competing for top 10 or top 30 placement
on search engines has become a real battle. You need an EXPERT to guide you on
your journey. Search engine ranking is critical and the keywords your target
can make or break your web site positioning efforts. 85% or better of all
searches on the Internet start on search engines. If you are not marketing
your site to be in the top search results with the most commonly used keywords
to find your product or service your marketing effort will fail.

7. Thinking that just anyone can build a web site.
Most developers never pay attention to the direction of marketing a site
should take from the very inception. There are HUGE
advantages to developing your site with marketing in mind. Position of keyword
phrases in the text, the alt tag description, the titles of the pages, the
page URL all have a role to play. We can make the changes but it makes your
site costs higher than need be. For professional web site development with an

8. Many web sites are built no taking advantage of
"Meta Tags" in the heading area. Not all search engines use them but what
about the ones that do.
9. Many web sites are built with editing software
that is easy to use but not always does it place the unseen coding for the
header in the proper order. This eliminates your visibility with some search
engines and severely handicaps you with others. Example: FrontPage 97 & 98
places the title tag below all the other portions of the heading code, it
should always be at the top.
10. Many developers and web owners choose to build
their sites using frames. This is a poor choice many times in that there are
many browser which do not support frames. The main reason that this is a poor
choice is that many search engines do not rank these sites very high because
the frames direction page normally has very little if any text and meta tags
for the search engine to rank it with. In essence you have developed a sight
that a search engine spider cannot see the forest through the trees. The
forest is there but it is not clear to the spider.
11. A big mistake that web site developers and
owners make is trying to put so many graphics on a site or page that the load
time is reduced to a crawl, this is known as "load cramping". If a site does
not start to load within 8 seconds a prospective customer will go to another
site that will load faster.
12. Finally, most web
site owners try to market their web site through mass e-mail
(spam), web site free link pages and free banner advertisements. This is not
really target marketing or as effective as search engine positioning. The best
prospect for your business is an interested prospect not one that is going to
browse and wear the carpet out.
